It has been a few months since I tested a new pattern but the moment I saw Gabriela’s sneak of the Fringe Dress I knew I needed one in my closet.
The Fringe pattern is a woven dress and blouse with two different views. It is designed to be fitted through the bust and waist.
View A features a button up front, elbow sleeve and sleeve tab. View B is a pull-over, notched front with a cuff sleeve. The neckline on this view is simply to die for. Both views include optional dress pockets, optional front or back waist tie, a shaped hem, and a gathered skirt.
I made View A for the test but don’t plan on stopping with just one. I actually have a View B cut out in a gorgeous Cotton & Steel Rayon but haven’t found the time to sew it up yet.
It is suggested to use your bust measurement when choosing your size. I have a 34.5″ bust and made a size 6. The fit was perfect. I could easily pull the dress on and off with it still fitting nicely around the waist. I did add 1″ to the bodice on account of my longer torso but kept the skirt length the same.
Usually, when I am testing a pattern I like to vision the photo shoot location prior to starting. This helps me to choose my fabric. Otherwise, I am overwhelmed by all the gorgeous fabrics I have available to me.
For this project, I envisioned a gorgeous summer day on the beach splashing in the waves. Luckily it was the first week of school for both my kids and my amazing husband took the day off to help me get them both to school so he was able to capture my dreams on film.
I sewed this Fringe dress using a Sandy Washed Dusty Pink Rayon I purchased from Harts Fabrics. I wanted something that could easily transition into any season with a quick change of accessories. And since we really only have two seasons here in Florida I’ll mostly be wearing it with flip flops.
One of my favorite things about the way Gabriela puts her tests together is the inspiration boards she uses upon release of her patterns. It is so helpful to me to see what others have used and often times I will pick a fabric I wouldn’t have normally used.
I’m feeling pretty special right about now that she used one of my pictures for an inspiration board. If you love any of these great fabrics pictured they all can be purchased at Hart Fabrics.
