Hi Y’all!! Where are my fellow left handed seamstresses!?! This post is for you! Being left handed isn’t always easy in the sewing world. Being a lefty myself, I know the struggle. Silly fact about me, I write upside down. Like paper turned 90 degrees and my wrist awkwardly twisted. I can’t remember a time I didn’t write like this but I’m assuming it started in grade school when I’d use a pencil and end up with the lead all over my hand.
So let’s talk about some of my favorite left-handed sewing tools and why I love them.
Gingher Left-Handed 8″ Dressmaker Shears: These are the perfect pair of scissors for anyone who is left-handed and sews. I have tried several brands but these are my favorite. They a professional-grade, high-quality scissors.
Olfa 60mm Rotary Cutter: This rotary blade is designed for both left handed and right handed users. The blade can easily be switched to whichever side you need.
Fiskars Cutting Mat: The easy to read measuring grid counts down from left to right and the degree lines are on the right side of the mat, making it easy to cut your fabric without getting in the way of yourself.
Left Handed Sewing Machine: There is a company in Austrailia who has developed a sewing machine for the left-hand dominant seamstresses. I don’t use this machine but think it’s great there is something out there.
I hope this helps to easily sew in a right handed world. I’d love to know which are your favorites.
