I am very excited about this new outfit I tested last week for Striped Swallow Designs. My daughter doesn’t like wearing pants, or shorts, or anything other then dresses so I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when she actually wanted to wear this.
Striped Swallow Designs recently released the Highlander Dolman and Rhapsody Joggers for women and now is also available in girls’ sizes 2T-12. After sewing these for the little lady I really need to grab the women’s patterns for myself.
The Highlander Dolman features either a t-bar back or the ties (as shown). There are two sleeve options and cut lines for a curved hem or straight hem. It is already beach weather here so I made the short sleeve option with the curved hem. I love how it shows off the pocket of the joggers just enough. I made a straight size 5 per the measurements and the fit was great! My daughter is so slender I easily could have sized down to a 4 width.
The joggers feature slouchy hip pockets, an elastic waist and ankle cuffs. They offer a relaxed fit though the hips and fitted calves, making these irresistibly comfortable.
We recently went through a growth spurt at our house and Miss A now wears 5T for the length, however I usually have to blend the waist to a 4T. I went ahead and made a straight 5t, mostly because I was feeling lazy and didn’t want to blend but because of the elastic waist they fit her perfect!!
For the joggers, I used this beautiful magenta rayon spandex I got in the Valentine bundle from LaFinch Fabrics. Unfortunately it is no longer available but she has so many other great solids to choose from. It feels so soft, which is aways a must when I am sewing for her. I am kind of wishing I had enough to make myself something also.
I used this fun Sarah Jane Magic knit I had in my stash for the Highlander Dolman. I decided to use the unicorns for the peekaboo pockets on the joggers to tie the entire outfit together.
I loved sewing up this really confident-beginner friendly outfit. The tutorial has clear and concise instructions with step photos. I love how Mandalynn lays out her tutorials, she offers side tabs to easily direct you to what you need.
The Rhapsody Joggers and Highlander Dolman are releasing soon so be on the look out!
