I can’t believe I am just now getting around to sharing this beautiful Willow Kimono by Designer Stitch. I have had this made for over a month now and worn it several times since but just got around to photographing it last week. I recently attended the SNAP conference in Salt Lake City where I was lucky enough to meet up with some of my most beloved sewing bloggers. Kim from Sweet Red Poppy was sweet enough to take these gorgeous pictures for me. She did such an amazing job!! Thanks Kim!
Ok, lets get back to the Willow Kimono. Ann, the designer behind Designer Stitch, has an eye for what is currently on trend in the fashion world and this kimono is no exception.
I used a gorgeous silk woven I received from LA Finch Fabrics that is unfortunately sold out! I really wish I had purchased more of it when it was available but Josie does have several other amazing options.
Willow is perfect for silks! The pattern calls for lightweight woven but the drape is the most important thing to consider when buying fabric. You want something that will move well.
I made the high/lo version and sized down one size. I ended up also removing 2 inches before I hemmed it.
I love the ease this pattern has when it comes to styling. I originally made it to wear to the beach with jean shorts and a simple top but it can also effortlessly dress up my jeans for the perfect date night outfit.
When it comes to sewing, this pattern is a breeze. Ann gives great instruction for french seams in her tutorial. When working with silks a french seam makes all the difference. The inside of your garment will be as beautiful as the outside.
I’ll leave you with this and let the pictures do the rest of the convincing!!
